Some Frequently Asked Questions - from www.2servU.net

What is a Domain Name?
Your own Domain Name is YOUR IDENTITY on the Internet . . . www.yahoo.com, or www.2servU.net, or www.AA.org - it provides an easy way to access Your Website, send email, and give a professional image to Your Company.

Ours is 2servU.net - Yours can be whatever you would like (as long as it is not registered to someone already).  If your Company Name was TeleCom, you would probably want either TeleCom.com or TeleCom.net - The TDL's (Top Level Domains) are .com for Companies, .net for Networks, and .org for Organizations.  The standard price to purchase Domain Names is $35 per year.

Note: 2servU.net can obtain Domain Names for Only $30 / year and handles all the Registration for you at no extra charge!

What is a commercial Web Hosting Plan?
A commercial web hosting plan will provide you storage space for your website files on a computer that is hooked up to a very fast internet connection.  These computers (called "servers") run operating systems that "serve up" documents so that people can view them, regardless of what operating system they are running.  Servers can also run "scripts" that allow form processing, databases, hit counters, etc.

These servers run 24hrs/day and should have safeguards such as backup power supply (generator), temperature controlled environments, daily system backup, etc.  Web Hosting Prices are determined by the amount of Disc Storage Space, amount of traffic, how many email accounts, etc.  You need to have a Domain Name to get a commercial Web Hosting Package.

How does it work?
This computer (called a "server") will serve up your files whenever someone types in your Domain Name on their browser. This tells the web server which files to access by your unique URL (uniform resource locator) that is registered to you.  The server always looks for the main file associated with the URL (index.htm, welcome.htm, default.htm) which shortens up the web address.  So when someone types in a Domain Name such as www.2servU.net it would automatically point to the index.htm file of our Site (www.2servU.net/index.htm)

What is a Virtual Web Hosting Plan?
People that have a website but don't have their own Domain Name can be "Virtually Served" by somebody else's commercial Hosting Plan. You would be sharing their server, and all of your files would have their Top Level Domain Name in front of yours.  This would still allow the public to view your website, but would not allow you features like unlimited email accounts, autoresponders, viewing your website statistics, managing your account, etc. - This feature comes with the Virtual "Plus" Website Package

Note: If you purchase a Domain Name we can forward it to your Virtual Web Address. This way people could access your website on our server by typing in www.YourCompany.com

What is a Virtual Web Address?
2servU.net
's virtual web addresses are www.2servU.net/YourCompany - If the name of your Company is TeleCom, we would create a folder on our server and name it "TeleCom". . . all of your website files would be posted to that folder, and people could access your website by typing in www.2servU.net/TeleCom - This is a temporary hosting solution that we include with all of our website packages.

Note: If you purchase a Domain Name we can forward it to your Virtual Web Address. This way people could access your website on our server by typing in www.YourCompany.com - This feature comes with the Virtual "Plus" Website Package

What is a Virtual Email Address?
All virtual email addresses are YourCompany@2servU.net - If the name of your Company is TeleCom, we would create an email address on our mail server for TeleCom@2servU.net . . . we would then forward it to one of your existing email accounts, so all mail sent to your virtual email account will automatically get routed to the email address of your choice!  This gives you a more professional looking email address, and can help you track response you are getting to your website.  Note: In order for this to work you must have an existing email account (most ISP's include 1 or more email addresses with your monthly dial up service)
